Studying Political Science means engaging with the significance of political decisions for society. State, private sector, and civil society actors are of interest, as are the latest developments at national and international levels. Political Science students in Hamburg learn to systematically ask questions and use scientific theories and methods to identify and analyze political contexts and political science problems. There are four main areas of study: Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory and History of Ideas, and Methods of Empirical Social Research. Although it is a Bachelor of Arts program, which usually includes the choice of a minor subject, the Political Science program is studied without a minor. Career prospects include work in politics-related areas such as federal and state ministries, political parties, assistant positions for representatives, and institutions for political education. Political scientists also work in media, adult education, business associations, consulting, libraries, archives, documentation centers, PR agencies, and businesses. Following the Bachelor's degree, a Master's degree in Political Science can be pursued.
