The Master's program "Theory and Comparison of Political Systems in Change" offered by the Institute of Political Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen combines a solid education in political theory with intensive training in empirical-comparative political science. The basic modules on theory-method comparison form the conceptual three-pillar framework for acquiring strategies to analyze political change processes, which are then brought together in the research module through an exemplary project. In the subsequent elective area, students deepen their acquired competencies by taking various specialization options (3 out of 5): there is the opportunity to expand professional knowledge by acquiring comparative expertise in three different world regions (Europe, East Asia, Africa), in the field of comparative government research, or with a focus on philosophy of science. This combination gives the clearly structured research-oriented MA program a unique selling point. Students are enabled to independently design comparative research designs, conduct sophisticated empirical investigations, and critically reflect on the prerequisites and limitations of scientific work.

* Minimum degree required: Successful completion of the Bachelor's program in Political Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen or an equivalent or comparable program in Political Science or Social Science that includes a minimum of 12 credit points in Methods and Statistics, and 6 credit points each in Political or Sociological Theory and Comparative Political Science or Comparative Sociology * Minimum Grade Required: The program must have been completed with a grade of at least 2.59 * Also recognized as equivalent: Diploma degree in a political science program or a Magister or teaching degree with Political Science as the main subject

* German: DSH 2 level or TestDaF (TDN 4) required for non-German speakers (except for certain exemptions) * English: B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) required for those who did not complete their first degree at an English-speaking university
