Automotive Engineering is a specialization in the Mechanical Engineering degree program. Students acquire knowledge of essential components of automotive engineering as well as expertise in the design of chassis and drives. In addition, they extend their knowledge of contemporary vehicle development processes in the automotive industry and learn how to use simulation tools for virtual automotive design and development (FEM, CFD, MKS, Matlab/Simulink). In this specialization, students study the following modules: drives, combustion engines, chassis technology, optimization of vehicle systems, numerical methods in mechanical engineering and simulation, as well as power and working machines. The university's internal internships in quality management and production engineering are carried out using examples from automotive engineering. The internship and the bachelor's thesis are scheduled for the 7th semester. Both are usually completed in one company. The automotive industry is the most important industrial sector in Germany with development, production, sales and use accounting for approx. 20% of the gross national product.
