The Bachelor's program in Art History focuses on the origin, function, impact, and cultural context of artworks from the early Middle Ages to the present. The study aims to enable students to independently acquire relevant scientific information and handle tasks in the field of art history using subject-specific methodology. The program provides fundamental theoretical knowledge and the ability to analyze objects in architecture, painting, graphics, sculpture, crafts, photography, and new media. Excursions within Germany and abroad, as well as visits to museums and studios, are integral parts of the study. One of the focuses in teaching and research is the Baltic Sea region. The program has a strong practical orientation, and the proximity to the Department of Fine Arts at the Caspar-David-Friedrich Institute allows students to learn about contemporary artistic methods and strategies.
