The teaching degree program in Physics including Astronomy provides a balanced education in conceptual and methodological foundations of physics. Students develop competencies in Experimental Physics, Theoretical Physics, Astronomy, and Physics Teaching Methodology. The program aims to prepare students to meet current requirements of the teaching profession both in subject knowledge and teaching methodology, as well as to follow, evaluate, and prepare future developments in physics and astronomy for appropriate classroom instruction. Students develop the ability to illustrate the specific role of theory in physics, its working strategies, thought forms, and cultural interconnections through school-relevant examples. The program consists of mandatory and elective modules in physics and mandatory modules in subject didactics. The subject study covers mechanics, electrodynamics, thermodynamics, quantum physics, relativity theory, astronomy, and other specialized application areas. Most courses are offered separately from the Bachelor's program in Physics to particularly address the professional field. The subject study comprises 102 credit points. In the didactic training (15 credit points), students are enabled to prepare physical facts for teaching in the classroom, apply physics-specific teaching methods, and select appropriate media.
