By using modern technology for the early detection, diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation of diseases, doctors are becoming increasingly successful in helping patients. This is made possible by biomedical engineering - an engineering discipline specializing in biological and medical issues. Biomedical engineers develop respiratory machines, program pacemakers for the human body or research new, gentler X-ray techniques. With its interdisciplinary orientation, the study of biomedical engineering forms the interface between technology and biology or medicine. As a student, you will deal with current medical topics and develop a strong understanding of medical research and practice. You will work closely with the biomedical engineering industry. Already during your studies you will be involved in basic biomedical research. The Institute for Biomedical Engineering at the TU Ilmenau is a world leader in the fields of brain research, radiology technology and ophthalmology.
