The Master's program in Mathematics aims to enable students to work independently in both the application of mathematical methods in practice and in mathematical research. The mathematical knowledge acquired during the Bachelor's program is deepened during the Master's program, and students are introduced to demanding fields of application and current research through advanced and specialized lectures. The research-oriented Master's program in Mathematics in Greifswald has evolved from the Diploma program in Mathematics. Students should be enabled to understand and creatively apply mathematical concepts and facts, master the formation of mathematical models for different problems, and conduct model analysis and problem-solving using mathematical methods. The program is divided into four semesters, with the first ones serving to deepen the fundamentals of mathematics and enable specialization. The Master's examination consists of accompanying examinations for the individual modules and a Master's thesis. The Master's thesis can be written in the third and fourth semesters and comprises a working period of nine months. The study concludes with its public defense.
