📋 Program Hakkında

The International Bachelor's program in East Asian Studies (IBO) at the University of Hamburg offers intensive language training and comprehensive knowledge about East Asian culture with a focus on a chosen regional specialization in history and present. The program takes place predominantly in small groups with modern technical equipment and personal supervision. The study includes a stay abroad at a university in the respective region, as well as introductions to academic work and career orientation. Hamburg is the cradle of German Sinology, with Chinese culture being researched and taught at the Hamburg Institute for almost a century. The IBO with a focus on Sinology provides fundamental academic knowledge of Chinese language and culture through language acquisition in speech and writing, and through learning about Chinese culture and society. Special consideration is given to the regional context between China, Korea, and Japan in historical, political-social, and cultural terms. The study includes a semester abroad in the People's Republic of China or Taiwan.
