The Master's program in Prehistoric and Early History is a research and practice-oriented program that directly prepares students for common professional fields in prehistoric and early history. Previously acquired expertise is deepened to develop a differentiated picture of ancient cultures, especially from the Baltic Sea region. In the Master's program, students expand their methodological and competence spectrum and engage in independent scientific work. Content of the subject is comprehensively researched, critically examined, presented at a high scientific level, and discussed together. Specific methods are tested using case studies, allowing students to apply learned methodological approaches to other questions, recognize open research questions, and develop targeted solutions. The program includes acquiring communicative competencies that enable students to convey scientifically complex topics outside the professional world. Special emphasis is placed on practical training oriented towards future professional life with in-depth insights into practical archaeological heritage management. Knowledge is imparted through lectures, seminars, exercises, excursions, and internships. Practical modules provide knowledge in archaeological field research, underwater archaeology, and museum work, intensively preparing students for future professional fields. Graduates can work in many areas of cultural life (e.g., public relations, museums, tourism, and continuing education) but especially find a professional future in archaeological heritage management. The degree also allows them to further qualify in prehistoric and early history through research projects and to pursue doctoral studies in the field.

✅ Giriş / Kabul Koşulları

* First professional qualification degree (typically Bachelor) in Ancient Studies with at least 180 credit points or another equivalent degree * Proof of acquisition of at least 60 credit points in the field of Prehistoric and Early History * English language skills at level B2 * If the criteria are not all met, the applicant can provide further evidence of their subject and course-specific qualification. The examination board then decides in an individual case examination whether the applicant will be admitted to the program.
