The Bachelor's program 'Risk and Security Management' (RSM) was established in 2006 by the University of Public Administration Bremen in response to the increasing importance of security issues in government, business, and society. The program prepares students for management tasks in supply, transport and corporate security, the security industry, and municipal crisis management. This scientifically based and practice-oriented program trains competitive professionals for active, innovative, and holistic risk and security management. Risk and Security Managers work in various organizations such as automobile manufacturers, railway companies, pharmaceutical companies, NGOs, hospitals, or energy suppliers to protect these organizations from damages. They develop complex strategies and concepts to protect people (like employees or visitors), assets (like buildings or machines), and immaterial values (like information and ideas). Their work is primarily conceptual and strategic rather than operational, distinguishing them from police or security guards. The role may involve on-site property assessments or discussions with stakeholders at different locations, sometimes worldwide.
