Composition may be studied as a Bachelor's or as a Master's degree course. As of 2022 a postgraduate Meisterschüler*in is also offered. The program includes access to the Studio for Contemporary Music, a joint institute of the UdK Berlin and the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. Students can have their works-in-progress presented and recorded by the studio-orchestra in a workshop setting, in collaboration with students of conducting and sound engineering. The program also features 'whirled-in-sounds', a series of workshops centering on diverse musical practices from around the world, and a unique research area focusing on tone systems and microtonality.
