This course is aimed at students who want to learn about or deepen their knowledge of working with professional studio technology and discover new approaches to distorting image motifs. Particularly in modern art and fashion photography, there are numerous examples of how experimental distortion techniques significantly change the effect of the image. These techniques offer us versatile possibilities in our photographic everyday life to challenge our creativity and develop an individual visual language. The workshop is divided into two parts: In the first part, we will examine experimental photographs from the past and present, analyzing their visual impact and the tools used. We will introduce you to various photographers and their works that apply such techniques in a modern, contemporary way, as well as the different approaches to influence the visual effect: distortion, blur, color shifts, double or long-term exposures, over and under exposure are just a few examples. After a practical technical introduction to Briese studio flash technology (lamps, light shapers, generators), we will turn to the various specific aids for distortion (color or spy films, glass objects, prism filters, star filters, mirrors, fabrics, Vaseline, etc.) and test what they do. In the second section of the block seminar, we want to independently apply the acquired knowledge through group projects. For this purpose, we distribute specific briefings on the topics of still life and portrait photography, which we then playfully implement in group work - from finding ideas to preparing the shooting to the photographic implementation in the studio, the digital workflow in Lightroom and the final retouching in Photoshop. Mandatory for students with a focus on photography. Participation from other courses: yes (up to 10 people). Dates: 18./19.10. and 1./2.11. each from 10.00 to 13.00 and 14.00 to 17.00.
