Biophotonics is a specialization in the Bachelor program Physical Engineering. One of the most important goals of biophotonics is to help understand the causes of diseases such as cancer and diabetes, develop more efficient therapeutic methods, cure people with them, or prevent the diseases from developing in the first place. The program focuses on optical methods that are becoming an increasingly important part of medical diagnostics, the pharmaceutical industry, all forms of analytics, and biotechnology. Graduates work on transferring research findings into substantive applications that help humans and nature, particularly in optical device development and biophotonical measurement technology. The bachelor's degree offers graduates opportunities for permanent positions, self-employment, or continuation with a subsequent master programme in Mittweida.
