The goal of medical education is to train doctors who are scientifically and practically educated in medicine, capable of independent and autonomous medical practice, further education, and continuous training. The study of medicine provides the fundamental knowledge, abilities, and skills in all subjects necessary for comprehensive healthcare for the population. Since October 2003, a redesign of medical studies at Martin Luther University has led to more practical and patient-oriented training, as well as stronger integration of preclinical and clinical study content. Medical studies in Halle are characterized by clinical-practical training that begins at the earliest possible time according to students' abilities and skills, and by the opportunity for students with appropriate interests to engage in scientific work during their studies.
