The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry is offered jointly by Leibniz University Hannover and the Hannover Medical School. Biochemistry is established at the intersection of chemistry, biology, and medicine. It aims to understand and explain the phenomena of life from the molecular level, particularly through metabolic biochemistry and molecular biology. Students acquire an understanding of scientific, especially chemical and biochemical fundamentals. They learn to apply essential biochemical and molecular biological methods to scientific questions and become aware of the fundamental social significance of the field. The program provides broad training in biochemistry, molecular biology, and chemistry (general and inorganic chemistry, organic and physical chemistry) as well as relevant fundamentals in mathematics, physics, and biology. Graduates can plan experimental procedures, apply methods of chemistry and biochemistry, develop solutions to limited problems using scientific methods, present results appropriately, interpret experimental results, and understand current methodological developments.
