The Bachelor's program in Industrial Mathematics (Technomathematik) is a mathematical program with a focus on Applied Mathematics. About 60 percent of all lectures are in mathematics; the remaining 40 percent cover engineering and computer science. The program is supported by a cross-university cooperation between the University of Hamburg and the Hamburg University of Technology. Industrial Mathematics helps solve mathematical problems that arise in engineering simulations. Modern engineering research increasingly works explicitly with mathematics, and industrial mathematicians can recognize engineering problems at the interface between both sciences and address them with advanced mathematical methods. Almost no product today is manufactured and distributed without its functionality being verified by mathematical simulation: no aircraft, no car, no building, no hip prosthesis, no pacemaker, no smartphone, no refrigerator, no computer.
