This course focuses intensively on original photographic images depicting bodies and physicality, and their presentation. A central component is the examination of current exhibitions at the House of Photography in the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg. The focus is on the F.C. Gundlach collection, particularly on the hanging of works, exhibition occasions, and the motivation behind the presentation. Students will study the characteristic features of presented artists such as Joel-Peter Witkin and Robert Mapplethorpe and analyze the technical aspects of their work. The course includes guided tours through the depot of the F.C. Gundlach collection, providing deeper insights into the collection's history. Students will prepare presentations about the works of featured artists and deliver them in the depot alongside the presentation of the works. The course also covers compositional fundamentals in photography and explores the professional role of a collection curator, examining the motivation behind this profession, the scope of tasks, cooperation with other institutions, and the design and generation of exhibitions.
