📋 Program Hakkında

The Pre- and Early History Archaeology program focuses on the study of human cultures during periods with limited or no written records in Europe. The program begins with the first appearance of humans approximately 2.5 million years ago and continues until written and pictorial sources can answer all questions. Students analyze material remains of human activities and learn to describe, reconstruct, and interpret these artifacts. The program is divided into three main directions: Stone Age Archaeology (using scientific methods), Prehistoric Archaeology (analyzing cultural history through remaining artifacts), and Early Historical Archaeology (combining material culture and written sources). Students participate in excavations and research projects both domestically and internationally, learning proper documentation, identification, and interpretation of archaeological findings. The program addresses questions such as the origins of violence in society, identifying ethnic groups through material remains, reasons for settlement abandonment, and historical responses to climate change and resource scarcity.
