The teaching degree program in Physics including Astronomy focuses on providing a balanced education in conceptual and methodological foundations of physics. Students develop competencies in Experimental Physics, Theoretical Physics, Astronomy, and Physics Teaching Methodology. The program aims to prepare students to meet current requirements of the teaching profession both in subject knowledge and teaching methodology, as well as to follow, evaluate, and potentially adapt future developments in physics and astronomy for appropriate classroom instruction. Students develop the ability to illustrate the specific role of theory in physics, its working strategies, thought forms, and cultural interconnections through school-relevant examples. The program consists of mandatory and elective modules in physics (87 credit points) and mandatory modules in subject didactics (15 credit points). The physics curriculum covers mechanics, electrodynamics, thermodynamics, quantum physics, relativity theory, astronomy, and other specialized application areas. Upon completion with the First State Examination, graduates can enter the teacher training program (Referendariat) in all German federal states, leading to a career as a teacher. The degree also qualifies for doctoral studies.
