📋 Program Hakkında
The Typography and Book Design program at Muthesius University of Fine Arts focuses on language, its visualization, and presentation. The Bachelor's program involves intensive study of typography and its expressive possibilities. Students learn about the history of writing and printing both theoretically and practically, experimenting with different writing methods like pointed or broad-nib pens, and traditional printing and production techniques such as letterpress and bookbinding. They study different typefaces and develop a sense for the character and effect of typography on language reception. Through various applications—from lettering to stationery, posters, and complex book design—students learn to use typefaces purposefully. In the Master's program, work with typography is further deepened while giving more space to independent projects. Students develop projects in both classical book design and experimental design areas. A focus is placed on language, encouraging students not only to visualize it but also to write texts or take on the role of an editor. The program is led by Prof. André Heers (Typography and Design) and Prof. Annette le Fort (Book Design) since 2009, with close collaboration with poet Prof. Oswald Egger, Dutch type designer Albert-Jan Pool, and the Institute for Art, Design and Media Sciences.
