Mechatronics is a highly interdisciplinary engineering science between electrical engineering, computer science and mechanical engineering. It forms the backbone of many technical systems - from smartphones to electric cars and biomedical devices. The program focuses on designing technical systems, electronic circuits, developing software for microcomputers, and regulating mechatronic systems. Special fields of application and focus in Ilmenau are microsystems technology and biomechatronics, which combines mechatronics with biology and medicine. The curriculum includes common engineering fundamentals (31%), fundamentals of mechatronics (22%), optional compulsory modules with choices between mechatronic systems, bio-mechatronics, and micro-mechatronics (8%), softskills (3%), and basic and professional internship/bachelor thesis (14%). The program requires a basic internship of 8 weeks (preferably completed before studies) and a specialist internship of 10 weeks in the 6th semester.
