The Human Medicine program at the University of Greifswald is a state examination degree with a standard study period of 13 semesters (6 years and 3 months). The medical education includes: 1) Six years of study with the final year comprising 48 weeks of practical training in hospitals/teaching practices, 2) First aid training, 3) Three months of nursing service, 4) Four months of clinical clerkship, and 5) An examination in three sections. The program is divided into three sections: First section of two years (four semesters), Second section of three years (six semesters), and Third section of one year (two semesters), plus three months of examination time. The University Medical Center trains doctors who are capable of maintaining and restoring health and well-being at individual and societal levels with a holistic approach and scientific focus, considering the specializations in Community Medicine and Molecular Medicine. The Greifswald teaching concept features a progressive learning spiral: from symptom-oriented to disease-oriented to patient management-oriented in the practical year. The program offers practical, patient-oriented training with a high proportion of clinical-practical instruction, interdisciplinary teaching, and integration into clinical routines. Scientific work is integrated from the first semester, with opportunities for individual scientific work and MD/PhD completion options.
