The Digital Effects (VFX) chair at HFF Munich focuses on teaching students the fundamentals of visual effects for film. Students learn about visual effects services, creation processes, associated costs, and available possibilities. The program emphasizes how visual effects can enable the realization of any desired story in any genre. While students won't learn the technical aspects of creating visual effects in a computer, they will learn how to assess a script, identify visual effects possibilities, and implement them. The curriculum includes basic drawing techniques for storyboarding and shot design, working with greenscreens for compositing, using motion capture, and the entire VFX production pipeline. The program includes a week focused solely on visual effects, with each day dedicated to a specific discipline such as producing, supervising, or concept art. The visual effects taught serve all branches and genres of film, including fictional movies, documentaries, and commercials.
