Sociology is the general science of social phenomena. It examines relationships from elementary social connections (like intimate relationships and friendships) to groups, networks, organizations, and national societies, up to the processes and structures of global society. The program aims to understand how mass phenomena (such as trends and social movements) come about, how social inequalities arise, harden, or change, and what dynamics lead to social conflicts. The Bachelor's program in Sociology provides a broad foundation in sociological theories and research methods. Students gain insights into various current sociological research areas and learn how to write essays and small research papers on social phenomena. The program includes both quantitative-statistical and qualitative-interpretative methods of social research. Students can specialize in areas such as family sociology, educational sociology, economic sociology, cultural sociology, gender studies, body sociology, media sociology, and technology and innovation sociology.
