History involves the methodological exploration of historical events, persons, objects, structures and processes. The master's degree program History conveys advanced research-oriented knowledge of German, European and extra-European history from antiquity to the present. The program is divided into nine different specializations: General History, Ancient History, Medieval History, Historical Fundamental Sciences, Early Modern History and History of the Rhineland, Contemporary History, Eastern European History, Constitutional, Social and Economic History and Modern International History. Students can choose from a large range of courses within their specializations, giving them freedom to shape their own profiles. Possible career paths include archiving, publishing, libraries, media, public relations, teaching, tourism, museums/cultural institutions, policy consulting, foreign service, and academia.

* University degree (German or non-German) in history or a related discipline * Minimum grade of 3.0 or local equivalent * Modules from the subject of history worth at least 36 ECTS credits * Specific modules: Ancient History and/or Medieval History (12 ECTS credits) | Modern History (12 ECTS credits) * Knowledge of Latin depending on chosen specializations
