The Bachelor of Arts in Slavic Studies focuses on Slavic languages, literatures, and cultures in their political and social contexts from contemporary and historical perspectives. The program at Oldenburg emphasizes the region of Russia, Poland, Belarus, and Ukraine, including their interconnections. Students acquire language skills in Russian and/or Polish, with optional Ukrainian and/or Belarusian. The program provides fundamental knowledge of Slavic studies theories, methods, and questions through exemplary areas of linguistics and literary studies. Students develop teaching competencies for both school and non-school settings, considering diverse target groups. The program consists of literary studies, linguistics, language practice, and includes language didactic and cultural elements. Students can begin their studies with or without prior language knowledge, though participation in a preparatory Russian course (Propädeutikum) at the beginning of the winter semester is required for those studying Russian.
